How We Test

Software comparisons should be useful and verifiable. I adapt the test process to each category, but follow these principles.

1. Define the reader’s question

I choose realistic tasks for a clear audience and record the conditions of each trial.

2. Test consistently

Where possible I use the same scenarios and data for competing tools, saving screenshots and relevant measurements.

3. Verify important facts

I check pricing, plans, trials and limitations against official information before publication, noting when prices were checked. Untested features are explicitly labelled.

4. Explain the trade-offs

Each review identifies who the software is for, who should avoid it, meaningful alternatives and limitations.

5. Be transparent

Affiliate arrangements, reviewer licences and ownership of my apps are disclosed where relevant. Read the editorial policy.
